OFFICE OF THE COMMISSIONER FOR PERSONS WITH
DISABILITIES, WEST BENGAL
The
persons with disabilities (Equal Opportunities, Protection of Rights and full
Participation)
Act (PWD Act Year 1995) provided for institution of the Commissioner for Safe guarding the rights and
facilities of persons With disabilities. The object of the office of the
commissioner (disabilities) is that all persons irrespective of Disability in their
living.
For the purpose , Commissioner (disabilities) West Bengal coordinate with
the Departments of the
State Govt. for the Programmes and Schemes for the benefit of persons with
disabilities , monitor the Utilization of fund , disbursed by the state Govt. ,
take steps to safeguard the rights and facilities made available to persons with
disabilities.
Commissioner
(disabilities) , West Bengal without Prejudice of any aggrieved person or
otherwise look into complaints with respect to matters relating to deprivation
of rights of persons with disabilities , non- implementation of laws, rules,
bye-laws, regulations, executive orders, guidelines or instructions
Made or issued by the appropriate Govt. and the local authorities for the
welfare and protection of Rights of persons with disabilities and take up the
matter with the appropriate authorities.
In
addition to that issue of identity cards to the persons with disability in
Kolkata Municipal Corporation Area , distribution of prosthetic aids appliances
, Conferment of state awards to the disabled outstanding performers , Conferment
of legal Guardianship under National Trust Act year 1999,
Recognition of non – Govt. organization working for the cause of disabilities,
appellate Medical Board and done for eligible persons with disabilities.
As
recommended by the National Commission for Women , a task force for working out
a policy
And action plan for women with disabilities has been constituted in terms of No.
5910 –SW dtd. December 30, 2004 , which sits once in every three months at the
office of the Commissioner
