WEST BENGAL WOMEN DEVELOPMENT UNDERTAKING

 

The West Bengal Women Development Undertaking was established in the month of July 1993 with an objective to plan, promote, undertake and evaluate programmes for promoting entrepreneurship and Generating self employment among women in the fields of trade , business service etc. which will enable Women to earn and improve their standard of living. To undertake employment generation programme On agro based cottage and small scale and other industries by providing adequate know-how ,training And financial assistance, etc. as may be deemed essential and to assist women in setting co-operatives, associations or other bodies for improving their vocational pursuit are also the allied objectives of the Undertaking.

 

At present , the Undertaking is mainly implementing two major products , namely Swabalamban (NOARD) project and Swayamsiddha funded by department of Women and Child develop ment, Govt. of India , Ministry of HRD.

 

 

SWABALAMBAN (NOARD)

 

The vocational training programme under the name ‘NOARD assisted project’ was launched a few years Back with assistance from the Norwegian Agency for international development. The programme has Recently been renamed as Swabalamban. Objective of the programme is to provide training to the poorAnd needy for improvement of their vocational skill to enable them to undertake income generating Activities for achieving self reliance on sustained basis.

 

In the state of West Bengal , women Development Undertaking is the Nodal agency for implementation Of the programme . All the training projects are implementing in joint collaboration with the reputed NGOs. Training is imparted in traditional trades , like weaving , mat making , jute products manufacturing , Zori crafts, etc as well as in non traditional trades , like computer , electronics radio And tv repair, community health work etc.

  The entire fund required for recurring and non recurring expenditures of a project is provided by GOI As grant-in aid assistance . After the training is over , the trainees are also given assistance for getting Employed or self employed.

 

SWAYAMSIDDHA

 

Swayamsiddha , the integrated women Empowerment programme , aims at empowering the underprivileged women of socially and economically backward section of the rural areas by forming Self helf Groups (SHGs). It emphasizes the women in all respect from within their own self by Generating awareness about their position in the society, their potentiality and their right . it is to encourage them to fight against all adversities united with other women and to overcome drudgery,

Sufferings, helplessness and frustration of the individuals through a concerted effort based on unity And co-operation

 

Swayamsiddha is being implemented in 39 blocks of 4 districts of Bankura , Purulia , Dakshin dinajpur And Darjeeling including the 14 old IMY blocks of Bankura and Purulia.

  As of now 5054 SHGs with more than 63000 members have been removed.

 

NHDFC – A self employment scheme

 

The National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation has been incorporated by the Govt. of India to promote various economic development projects for the handicapped persons. The West Bengal Women Development Undertaking is acting as the state Channelising agency ofr NHDFC loan scheme inThis state on being authorized by the Deppt. Of  WCD&SW , Govt. of West Bengal.

 

So far 89 women entrepreneurs have been sanctioned required amount of loan under this self employment Scheme.
