SCHEME FOR PREVENTION OF ALCOHOLISM AND SUBSTANCE (DRUGS) ABUSE

Brief description

This scheme to provide whole range of services including awareness generation, identification, treatment and rehabilitation of addicts through the Voluntary organisations

Objectives

The aims of the scheme are:

(i)        to create awareness and educating the people about  the ill-effects of alcoholism and

substance abuse

(ii)       to evolve culture-specific models for the prevention of alcoholism and substance and

            the treatment and rehabilitation of addicts.

(iii)      to promote collective initiatives and self help endeavours

(iv)      to establish appropriate linkage between State interventions and voluntary efforts.

(v)       to increase community participation and public cooperation in  the reduction of

demand for dependence producing substances.

 

·       Need of the Helpline : With the increase of rate in crime against women and girls, changing social scenario, social changes like breakup of joint family system, family mal-adjustment, rapid urbanization and an increased obsession with material  gains leading to alleviated stress levels and absence of support system has given rise to emotional problems like loneliness, depression, inter personal conflict, suicidal feelings etc.  It is in l these circumstances that the women and girls need  the services of Help Line.

Objective

Help Line is a project of Govt. of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Women and Child Development and Central Social Welfare Board in collaboration with voluntary organisations working for  the welfare development of women and girls  in distress. The scheme is operational from 2002-2003

Networking

Help Line will build a network of various services being provided by governmental/non-govermental voluntary organisations and will provide emergency assistance before referring  the case to other organisations for long term rehabilitation.
